Why This Map Exists

Florida's Springs Are in Crisis

Florida is home to more freshwater springs than anywhere else on Earth — over 1,000 named springs fed by the Floridan Aquifer System. They are the lifeblood of Central Florida's rivers, ecosystems, and drinking water supply.

But decades of overdevelopment, aquifer depletion, agricultural runoff, and chemical spraying have pushed Florida's springs to the breaking point. Flow rates are dropping. Algae is choking spring runs. Herbicides approved by the FWC are poisoning the very water they claim to protect.

This map is Florida's first citizen-powered water quality database — built so that every Floridian who sees something wrong can put it on the record. Permanently. Publicly. Where no agency or politician can make it disappear.
